A collection of local activities and businesses in the Kommetjie area


Kommetjie lies about halfway down the west coast of the Cape Peninsula, at the southern end of the long wide beach that runs northwards towards Chapman's Peak and Noordhoek. The area is a popular spot for surfing, due to powerful waves from the Atlantic Ocean. Much of the coastline has a bottom is rocky, and the shallower waters are thick with giant kelp forests. Kommetjie is famous for its excellent crayfishing although changes in fishing quotas which have drastically reduced the daily catch allowed.

Longbeach

A popular surf spot, offering a variety of conditions. Waves can be large and powerful due to beach being exposed to the full might of the Atlantic Ocean swell

Best Wind: off-shore wind would be a SE, which is common in summer

Longbeach

A lesser-known kiteboarding spot, but that's because it only really works with a cross-on-shore wind of either SW wind (not too common) or NW (mostly in winter time). As with all Atlantic-side beaches, the Water temperature in pretty chilly at the best of times.

Best Wind: cross-on-shore SW in summer, or NW in winter. Summer wind range 10 - 30+ knots, Winter
